The 1930's
The machine aesthetic continued well into the 1930’s but a new style was emerging
– Naturalism. Also, in Paris, two formidable talents – René Boivin (under the direction
of Jeanne Boivin and Juliette Moutard) and Suzanne Belperron.
Largely ignored the geometric style of Art Deco preferring a more rounded often
sensuous form utilizing “semi precious” stones – aquamarine, topaz, amethyst, chalcedony.
Gold too was making a comeback. Largely ignored since the beginning of the century,
it was returning to favour by the mid 1930’s.
