The 1960's
By the mid 1960’s the accepted etiquette of jewels for day wear and evening wear
was beginning to slip. There was no one single design or trend.
The most original thought was coming from the independents. Sterlé has been pioneering
the texturing of gold which was extended and developed by the British designer –
Andrew Grima. If Sterlé could be considered the spirit of jewellery design in the
50’s the same could be said of Grima during the 60’s.
His organic designs were revolutionary and much copied throughout the decade. Italy
– for so long in the shadow of France and the U.S.A. emerged as a design force in
the jewellery world.
