(Melon Slice Bangle, Rene Bovin. 1934)
Rene Boivin
There are very few jewellery designers of the last fifty years who have not, in
one way or another, been influenced by Boivin.
Jeanne Boivin presided over the firm which bore her husband’s name. Assisted by
her designers - Suzanne Belperron (1921-32) Juliette Moutard (1933-75) and her daughter
Germaine they produced some of the most inspired designs of the Twentieth Century.
Naturalistic but stylized. Boldly using large semi precious stones and mixing materials.
Her rounded and sensual forms were quite at odds with the geometry of the Modernists.
Desirable then - even more so now. Stunning, timeless jewels.
